Note: Please see the COVID-19 page for revised membership fees and tryout schedules this year.

Squash is inclusive to all genders and levels of experience, either at university or college level. We welcome enquiries from those with a disability regarding the accessibility of Squash.

You can join OUSRC as a social member or a squad member. Social members can be university students, staff, or individuals from the Oxford community. The social membership is an ideal way to pick up squash as a beginner, or to keep up your game without committing to the training schedule; the club organises a weekly coached session which is always popular, and the squash ladder provides a great opportunity to get some more match-play experience and meet other players from across the university.

Squad members are selected and must be eligible to represent the University of Oxford in fixtures. OUSRC has four teams (two men’s and two women’s) that train and compete over the course of Michaelmas and Hilary term against other universities in the national BUCS leagues, as well as in a varied private fixture list.

The 2s squads (nicknamed the ‘Squirrels’ on the men’s side and ‘Ferrets’ on the women’s) usually have 10-15 players who come to regular training a couple of times a week. A handful of these players step up to play a match (depending on their availability), either at home or away, most Wednesdays during term. The Blues (1s) benefit from smaller squads and more frequent training, and play a number of private clubs, such as The Queen’s Club and the Armed Forces, as well as other universities. Almost all squad members play in the Varsity Matches against the University of Cambridge in Hilary term, giving about 40 Oxford squash players the opportunity to compete in what is usually a really close and exciting match! For the Blues, Varsity is played at the RAC in London. For the 2s, it alternates between Oxford and Cambridge every year.

New to Oxford in 2020/21 (Freshers!):

OUSRC will be posting information about how to join and where to find us in the weeks heading up to the start of term. We’ll be at the Freshers Fair (early October) and squad trials will be spread over two weekends at the start of Michaelmas. Squad teams are usually selected in the week after trials.

It’s important to wait until after trials before purchasing membership (so you don’t select the wrong one). If you’re not selected in a squad, by no means are you excluded from the club – you can become a social member instead! Also, many players have successfully been selected in a squad later in the year, having advanced in standard.

Please keep an eye on this page and also our social media for continuing information. We look forward to you joining the club!

Please direct any further membership enquiries to our Members’ Officer.
